The 2009 Home & Garden show is almost here. I was there this am to check out the rooms they are building. What an awesome sight! Watching homes and very large Garden sanctuary’s being built inside of a building is amazing.
I am sooo looking forward to the fresh smell of all of the flowers. We have record snow here in northern Ohio this year. Spending a day there has always lifted my spirits. The atmosphere of the indoors is almost always a large difference with the snow & cold outside.
My “Designer Showcase” room is an expression of who I am as a Decorator/Designer. I am The “Dollar Decorator”. We are doing the entire oom for UNDER $1.000.00. Including he drywall & carpet. My MOM upholstered furniture for 20+ years. I have included a few seek peeks of the transformation. The chair is before & then with items sitting on it that I am using in the room. The finished chair is fantastic…I can’t wait for you to see it.

I was contacted 2 ½ years ago about the 2008 Home & Garden show. The owner of the I-X enter and the show’s head Interior Design coordinator thought that they needed to add a Home Stager to the Plain Dealers Speaking Stage. Through hard wok & dedication my site usually appears in the #1,2,3 or 4 position in Google searches. They visited the top 6 sites and gave me a call.
Go The Extra Mile- After speaking with the I-X Center I had to send before & after pictures in the regular mail to the lead Designer. I Have not had pictures developed in a long time. I went to Walgreens and had 6 pictures made in 8 x 10 and mailed them off with my Media Kit.
Media Kit- Have your Brochure, Business cards and a “Promotional Flyer” ready at all times.
When someone calls you and are considering to ask you to represent them they need to know how you promote your business, are you legitimate & why they should ask YOU over your competition. I have a flyer that explains my services and includes my other Media features.
Respect- I was so honored that they chose me that I sent through the regular mail Thank you cards to the I-X and to the Designer. . I use Send Out Cards.www.SendOutCards.com/TheSDP During the show last year I went out of my way, (waited 45 minutes), to Thank the I-X Center personally. They were impressed with my gratefulness.
Great Presentation- Make sure that you provide a FUN & Educational experience. I learned that during theses speaking engagements the I-X Center counts how many are attending your presentation. They said, “Your audience is large & growing by the day. Can we have you back for 2009?”
“Well of COURSE I’d love to help you out.” I said.
Connections-The lead Designer stayed for most of my presentations. She really enjoyed them and then asked me to be a key speaker for The Ohio Red-Hatters convention. When we were planning the Red Hat convention in July she asked me if I would like to have a “Designer Showcase” room for the 2009 Home & Garden show. HOLY COW……Am I dreaming!
Hard work and dedication opened the doors of opportunity. I beg you to be BOLD in your pursuit of happiness.
Of course many of you know me, and understand that I feel that without GOD, NONE of this would be possible.
Public speaking used to terrify me. Does it terrify you?
Sometimes we HAVE to get out of the boat and KNOW it will be ok. Don’t be AFRAID. One step at a time.
